2-3 Hour Knit Hat Pattern

I've been making a lot of hats. Once I've got up a collection, they'll be donated, likely to the Soldiers & Sailors Home. Easy pattern, & if you have moderately proficient knitting skills & no interruptions (& the ability to sit still for more than a few minutes) you should be able to knit this up in about 2 hours. If, however, you have 3 dogs, 2 kids, a cat & a Husband (all of whom need something from you every 47 seconds), it might take you 3.

You'll need:

Size 13 Straight Needles (4 st = 1") or size to obtain gauge
4-5 oz of yarn

( I used 2 strands of worsted weight for most of these hats, but you can also use either one strand novelty bulky, 3 strands sport weight, or 4 strands baby weight. )

Row 1: Using 2 strands worsted weight, CO 56 stitches. K2, P2 across
Rows 2-40: Knit the knit stitches & purl the purl stitches
Row 41: Knit 2, p2tog across (37 st)
Row 42: K1, p2tog across (18 st)
Row 43: k2tog across (9)
Row 44: p2tog to last stitch, p1 (5)

Cut yarn, thread on needle. Pull needle through remaining loops, sew seam

Simple, right? They fit most size heads & are very warm. The wonderful thing about this pattern is it's so versatile. Switch out the size 13 straight needles for size 8 DP's, use 1 strand of worsted weight instead of two, & you can knit up quick baby hats :)

Hope you enjoy the free pattern & if you make a hat, I'd love to see it.
